It is very interesting to know how people get married in different parts of the world. Recently I found an article about 11 interesting wedding customs.

Today I am starting a new photo project for a charity called “My Life Through a Lens”. It is about former drug and alcohol users who recreated scenes from their previous lives. Because the matter is quite delicate I am not sure whether the photos will be published or not. Also recently I started a multimedia project about London which you should be able to see soon.

New Website

About a week ago I started designing my new website. It is about time as the old one looks a little outdated and needs refreshing. Keep your eyes on www.aleksy.co.uk and www.wedding-photography-london.co.uk in about 2-3 weeks to see the results. It will be more flashy and more focused on photos than the old one.

I was asked whether to shoot in B/W using camera feature or remove colour information later using computer. My practice is to shoot always in colour and convert photos to B/W later. I always shoot RAW and my camera is set to shoot B/W. This way you get black and white preview on your screen without loosing colours in your photo. That helps me with thinking in black and white. Of course I spend more time working with my photos but I get more control of the final effect and sometimes colourful photos look better than black and white.

When you use camera’s built in mode you are limited with your creativity by algorithms of your camera’s software. If you shoot in jpeg and decide to use camera’s black and white then all colour is lost and cannot be recovered.

My advice is to shoot in colour and then convert to black and white using Aperture/Lightroom/Picasa or any other software that you like. This approach gives you more options and if you decide that some photo could work better in colour then you still have all the colour information needed.

More information about converting to B/W soon.
